Τρία αδέλφια: η Τζέσι, ο Τζορτζ και ο Τίμοθι. Η Τζέσι λατρεύει το μικρό αδελφό της Τζορτζ. Μια νύχτα ξυπνάει από φωνές στο δωμάτιό του, αλλά δεν μπορεί να τρέξει κοντά του γιατί βρίσκει την πόρτα της κλειδωμένη. Το άλλο πρωί, τη θέση του Τζορτζ έχει πάρει ένα άλλο αγοράκι ο Τίμοθι – ο καινούργιος της αδελφός. Χρόνια αργότερα, ο Τίμοθι, αιγυπτιολόγος πια, εξαφανίζεται κι αυτός. Με τη βοήθεια ενός νέου και απένταρου Άγγλου αριστοκράτη, η Τζέσι πηγαίνει στην Αίγυπτο σίγουρη ότι εκεί θα βρει τον αδελφό της. Όμως το 1932 η Αίγυπτος είναι πολύ επικίνδυνη για μια νέα γυναίκα κι ο γοητευτικός Άγγλος μπορεί να μην είναι αυτό που φαίνεται.
