Στρατόπεδο συγκέντρωσης “Νταβίνσκι”, Σιβηρία, 1933. Μέσα στην παγωνιά και την εξοντωτική δουλειά, η μόνη διαφυγή της Σοφίας είναι οι ιστορίες που της διηγείται η Άννα για το εκθαμβωτικό παρελθόν στο Πέτρογκραντ και για τον έρωτά της με τον φλογερό επαναστάτη Βασίλι.
Όταν η Άννα αρρωσταίνει βαριά, η Σοφία αποφασίζει να δραπετεύσει για να βρει τον Βασίλι, να σώσει τη φίλη της. Αλλά η Ρωσία, κάτω από τη σιδερένια γροθιά του κομμουνισμού, δεν είναι πια η χώρα των αναπολήσεων της Άννας.
Η Σοφία περιπλανιέται μέσα σ’ έναν ιστό μυστικότητας και φόβου, και τότε ένας μεγάλος έρωτας απειλεί την υπόσχεση που είχε δώσει στην Άννα.
