Μετά το μακρύ, κουραστικό ταξίδι στη Σιβηρία -την πατρίδα του Ντιμίτρι- η Ρόουζ Χάθαγουεϊ επιτέλους επιστρέφει στην Ακαδημία του Αγίου Βλαδιμίρ και στην καλύτερή της φίλη, Λίζα. Η ώρα της αποφοίτησης έχει πλέον φτάσει, και οι δύο κοπέλες ανυπομονούν να ξεκινήσουν την πραγματική τους ζωή, έξω από τις ατσάλινες πύλες της Ακαδημίας. Μόνο που η καρδιά της Ρόουζ χτυπάει ακόμη για τον Ντιμίτρι Μπελίκοφ.
Όταν της δόθηκε η ευκαιρία, δεν κατάφερε να τον σκοτώσει. Τώρα θα βγουν αληθινοί οι χειρότεροι εφιάλτες της.. Ο Ντιμίτρι -που βρίσκεται κάπου εκεί έξω- έχει γευτεί το αίμα της και τώρα την κυνηγάει. Τούτη τη φορά, όμως, δε θα σταματήσει μέχρι να κάνει τη Ρόουζ παντοτινά δική του.
